Your Body Holds the Tension.
It Also Holds the Key.
Tension & Trauma Releasing Exercises activate your body’s natural ability to release deep muscular tension, calm the nervous system, and restore a sense of peace.

TRE (Tension & Trauma Releasing Exercises) is a series of simple exercises that help the body release deep patterns of stress and tension. Created by Dr. David Berceli after decades of work in communities affected by conflict and chronic stress, TRE activates a natural reflex — neurogenic tremoring — that calms the nervous system and releases muscular holding from the inside out.
You already know this mechanism. Think of your legs shaking after a near-miss on the highway. A child's legs trembling when they're scared. A dog shaking during a thunderstorm. These involuntary tremors are the body's built-in way of discharging stress — a natural process that most of us have learned to suppress. TRE teaches you to reactivate it, safely and on your own terms.
The exercises gently fatigue specific muscle groups, allowing the body's natural tremoring reflex to activate. Once the tremors begin you can help direct them to specific areas of your body and can also stop them at any time. You remain in control throughout the process.
TRE is used worldwide — by individuals managing everyday stress, and by professionals across counseling, social work, physical therapy, yoga, and emergency services who integrate it into their practice. It is currently being researched by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.
“Safety is not the absence of threat; it is the presence of connection.”
Gabor Maté, M.D.TRE supports the body's natural capacity for self-regulation. People come to TRE for many reasons.
Supports the body's ability to move between activation and rest — the foundation of resilience.
Builds capacity to be present with difficult emotions without becoming overwhelmed.
Releases the deep muscular holding patterns that accumulate from chronic stress, caregiving, and overwork.
Addresses muscular patterns that contribute to back pain, jaw tension, headaches, and ongoing physical discomfort.
Counselors, yoga teachers, coaches, and therapists add TRE to their existing practice as a body-based complement.
Many practitioners report better sleep, reduced anxiety, and a deeper sense of ease in daily life.
TRE is an evidence-informed modality with growing research support. Studies conducted through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs have explored its effectiveness for stress-related conditions, and research from multiple countries continues to expand the evidence base.
Lynea has contributed to TRE's academic credibility by developing and teaching graduate-level TRE curricula at Portland State University and the University of the Pacific. She is recognized as a Global Trainer by TRE for All (TFA), the international organization that oversees provider certification and professional standards.
